Jane has really taken a huge interest in books! Of course, she has her favorites. Right now they are Goodnight Gorilla, When Pigs Fly, Pat the Beastie, B is for Bear, Pig-a-Boo, Peek a Who?, Animal Sounds and Brown Bear. Jane picks her book, carries it to me, and turns around after I take it from her for me to pick her up and place her in my lap. She turns the pages, points to the page with an interest, acts on the page's command (tickle beastie's foot, finds beastie under the sheet, etc) and lets you know if she is finished or not with the book. If a book she is not interested in is brought up, she closes it and immediately reaches for one she does want to read. Last Tuesday (October 5) Jane and I joined the library and toured the children's section. Jane rolled around on the floor cushions (I think they reminded her of Maggie's bed in the living room that she has grown to love) and figured out how she can rock a rocking chair by herself. This Tuesday (October 12) we went to our first children's reading time at the library. 3 other mothers were there along with 6 children, including Hannah and Max. One mother read the books and led the songs and nursery rhymes. We had a great time and look forward to every Tuesday at 10!
Jane's motor skills and actions amaze me. I find myself just staring at her while she is at work. She works with her geometric stacking rings, knob puzzles and stacking cups. Stella was cooking with her last week and Jane wouldn't even look up from her cooking table to take a picture. Jane wore her "Jane" apron while playing with bowls, measuring cups, lemons and cherry tomatoes. Yesterday I showed her how her knitted finger puppets (from our Peru trip) fit on her finger. Today she showed me the puppet then worked on opening it and slipped her finger in the puppet. Once it was stable, she looked up at me with the biggest smile while pointing the puppet at me. Wow! She understands what I am saying(sometimes of course). But I can ask her to bring me something or take it to a specific place and she will do it-then say Dank Ku (Thank You)! She will also go into my makeup bag and pull out my powder compact and open it. Then she will fish around in the bag and find the makeup brush, pull it out, and swirl it around in the powder. I never realized they could imitate such actions so young!
Yesterday (October 13) was the last day of Greenlea's last day on Fall Pilgrimage Tour. Jane wore 2 different dresses that Stella wore as a child. Both are beautiful and Jane looked so sweet them!
Helping with Greenlea's tour: Gail Healy, Nathalie Harris, Mary Baugh (1st time-made her dress!), Stella, Jane, Jenifer Moss (1st time), Lee
After the last tour and a big nap, we hit up the First Baptist Church's new playground. Last week we went to Duncan Park for the first time to swing, but this playground is so nice we hope to return soon and often. Jane slid down the slide for the first time and loved it. I went down with her the first two times then let her go holding my hands. She was so eager to go down that I could barely grab her hands in time! I see a lot of sliding in our future.
Jane has always been a wiggle worm. When she is held, she prods and points in the direction she wants you to take her. Once she gets there, her arm extends and retracts as she hasn't fully decided what she wants to commit to grabbing. Most of the time she wants the one thing she can't have. She has a shelf next to her changing table that displays different keepsakes. There are several silver cups, spoons, brush and comb sets, picture frames and 3 ceramic bunny rabbits. Jane gets to pick out a silver item (because the bunnies are too breakable) for diaper changing time to keep her entertained. (Diaper changing time is a whole different blog!) Surprisingly, after changing her diaper she will put the item back on the shelf without a fuss. It's like she knows that she has to put it back so she can play with it again next time. This is blog worthy because apparently nothing else in the house is as special the items on her shelf. I can never find what I need because she has carried it around the house and left it in the weirdest place before picking something else up and doing the same with that object. For instance, when she gets out of the bath, she always picks the toothpaste tube off my shelf as the object she wants to chew on. So whenever I want to brush my teeth, I have to search the whole house for the toothpaste.
She loves being outside. We have been so fortunate to have such great weather the past 2 weeks. The temperature has been cool in the morning but warm during the day and no clouds in the sky. We have been opening our doors and locking the deck door and putting up the child gate in the front door for great circulation. Because we haven't had any rain, we water the plants every day. Jane loves helping pull the house across the yard and watering all the containers. After we water, she plays in the dirt and washes her hands in the hose. October 6 we finally planted the Jane Magnolia in the back yard. Jane watched as I dug a deep hole and placed the tree in it. Jane watered her tree, the spider lilly bulbs, Maggie and herself.

I ended up stripping her down outside because she was so wet. We had a great time in the yard and I look forward to watching Jane's Magnolia grow over the years.
A few more things:
-Her Diddy went shopping for her and bought her some new shoes, long underwear, and a puff jacket. We didn't have any warm clothes for her when the cold front came through.
-Jane has been waking up super early the past couple of days. I guess she is planning ahead for this weekend and the early morning hot air balloon races.
-Our little eater loves mac and cheese, green beans, cottege cheese, string cheese, peas and carrots, turkey dogs, watermelon, cantalope, strawberry mum mums, honey on toast, grilled cheese, and much more. Jane tried an olive today. After her first bite and no gross face, she ate the rest of it. Crazy. I thought she would spit it out once it touched her lips. She is very open to a variety of foods.
-She drinks more than 24 ounces of whole milk in a day. She loves her BaBa! Breaking her of the bottle is going to be really hard. She associates her sippy cup with juice so when she drinks milk out of the sippy cup she makes a funny face and doesn't drink it.
Jane's hair is really getting long. I can still swoop her hair across the back of her neck to look like a bob, but it looks like a little party in the back if I don't. Her hair feathers over the ears (quote from Hyde "Any day now she'll look like Farrah Fawcett".
She's so precious... I love this post!
