Miss Mags Carby, Ph.D.

The Magpie made her official return to Carbydom on Saturday. She's been at school since January and has made fantastic progress. Her obedience is rock solid, and she's been through force fetch and collar conditioning and she is steady to shot. She's developed the ultimate lab demeanor - she's calm and submissive around people, but a 60lb. rocket in the field. This dog will retreive until she is stepping on her tongue, and Hyde is over the moon about her. Most importantly, she's the same sweet puppy we dropped off last winter. She still likes ice slugs and getting a good tummy rub. Plus, and this is huge, her house breaking came right back! We can't wait for y'all to meet her.

Dance Party USA

Today I was able to hang out with Miss Mags and finally relax after a hectic 2 weeks. Jane had a different idea...she had a dance party in my belly all afternoon! For the first time, Hyde and I were able to watch my belly move. It is wild to think that she is growing so much that we can now see her when she moves around. Within the past week, I have felt her move a lot, but normally it's in the morning or right before I go to sleep. I have even been awakened by her karate like moves... ninja chops, judi chops, and roundhouse kicks. I have watched Diamond Dave's training video and apparently it has rubbed off on Jane. If you haven't seen it, click here http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=IR8wH4k1zGc
I love feeling and seeing her move and await her next session.

Our House is SOLD!

We closed on our house Wednesday morning! I shed a few tears locking up the house for the last time knowing we were closing a chapter of our lives and that this was our first house as a married couple. It was a great house and we loved living in it in Birmingham, but are glad to have sold the house so we can start looking here in Natchez. We were incredibly lucky to sell our house in this economy and want to thank Alice Broughton Cox, my dear friend and real estate agent, for all her hard work.

In Memory of Jackie O.

Jackie O. sadly passed away Saturday, May 23.  She was a loving family member of the Carby family for 14 years and definitely brought a ray of sunshine with her wherever she went. She never lost her sense of smell or let a morsel of food stay on the ground. We believe she has an unlimited supply of scooby snacks and cheese in Heaven. She will be missed as we have loved every minute with her.

On the Road Again....

I have had a hectic week!  I left last Thursday for my 10 year high school reunion and feel like I have not sat down yet! We had a great time at our reunion and I will post pictures and more about it when things slow down (in June). Friday, May 15, Mom hosted lunch for the Sturdivant women. Grandmom, Aunt Lanie, Kathryn, and Mary Laine were able to come catch up over " lady lunch food". We missed Aunt Cindy, but know she had a great time in LA.

After two late nights reminicing with my high school buddies, Mom and I drove the Excursion and trailer to Birmingham Sunday evening. We packed the house and had movers pack the car and trailer on Monday. Monday night we were able to have dinner with Alice and Alice Broughton. Tuesday we made a Lowes run, researched Babies R Us, and saved some time to shop in the big city, of course. We were also able to spend an hour or so picking out fabric and lace to make Jane some smocked layette dresses and bloomers. They are going to be adorable! I can't wait to start on them, although I still haven't finished knitting the Christmas stocking, patchwork blanket or started on the bird mobile for the crib. So much to do!!

Here is a picture of  the belly and Alice Broughton before dinner in Birmingham.

We pulled into Greenwood Tuesday night at 11pm. I drove the trailer by myself to Natchez at 8:30am Wednesday morning to make it back for lunch. Uncle Cage and Aunt Louise picked up my grandparents, Ewing and Jane, at 7am in Memphis for a trip to Natchez. We arrived at the same time and had lunch at The Castle then toured Hawthorne, Hyde's grandparents' house, and Longwood, an unfinished octaganol house next to Hawthorne. Stella and I took Jane and Ewing to Oak Hill, their B&B then crawled in the bed for a little rest before drinks at 6 and dinner at 7. Thursday morning, they had an amazing brunch at Oak Hill along with a tour of the grounds and house. We toured the Natchez Cemetery, which is amazing and beautiful. For anyone coming to tour, it is a must! We also made sure Grandmother Jane was able to see the Mississippi River before she left. It is actually really high right now (around 53 feet) and sandbags were being filled at the bottom of the bluff on Silver Street.

They drove back to Jackson for Maggie and Charles's high school graduation from St. Andrew's. Tracy and Scott hosted the family at their house beforehand. I hate I had to miss it. They were always so sweet to come to so many of my events in high school and college. Hyde and I got in the car and drove to New Orleans for his flight to Telluride for David Junkins and Lindsey Callon's and bachelor party. Hyde will fly back to New Orleans on monday and then fly to Birmingham Tuesday morning.

Stella and I are leaving again Saturday for Birmingham so we can shop around hang out with Bettye Jane, Charlie, and Brirmingham friends. Monday movers will come and finish packing up everything at the house. Hyde arrives Tuesday (perfect timing huh?) and we close on the house Wednesday at 10am!!!!! We will drive home that afternoon and unload Thursday. Friday we have doctor's appointment and will take the trailer back to Greenwood. Saturday we will be trained to handle Miss Mags and bring her home!!! Saturday night we have Grace and Micajah's first engagement party in Grenada. It should be a great time and I can't wait to see them! They are adorable together and it makes me so happy to see them excited about starting their life together!

Beach Belly-1st Mother's Day

Hyde and I went to the beach last weekend with Anastasia, Dunbar, Bettye Jane and Charlie. We had a great time hanging out on the beach (just a few mishaps with the sunscreen) and wish we could have stayed longer. Here's a picture of my belly on the beach at the beginning of my 23rd week. I was able to dig a whole in the sand to get some sun on my back.
I was able to celebrate my first (Expecting) Mother's Day on Sunday, May 10. I received the best gift: Hyde was able to feel Jane move! His feeling her move was truly an amazing gift and it being on Mother's Day is incredibly special.

It's a Girl!

Hyde and I are happy to introduce Jane Carruthers Carby.  Sweet baby Jane is
named in honor of two of her great-grandmothers, her maternal grandmother,
and her paternal aunt.  At 22 weeks, she weighs 1lb. 2oz. and will arrive
around September 5th.  We look forward to meeting her!
