Jane's First School Picture

Friday, October 14 was School Picture Day at First Presbyterian
Playschool. I dressed Jane and up and strolled her to the school (she
doesn't attend on Fridays) and expected to see a blue backdrop like
all the annual pictures we took growing up. Nope! The photographer had
a full Fall setting ready for the kids with pumpkins and scarecrows
ready for props. Jane was in a complete daze. Two women were dancing
around with squeeking chickens trying to get her to smile as the
photographer waited patiently for that perfect smile. A full smile
never came and this is the result. Pretty cute I have to say but
pretty funny too! It isn't necessarily the setting I would have
chosen, but she is so darn cute, she makes everything adorable. Our
little girl is growing up! School pictures! Next stop, Driver's
License!

Lafayette and New Iberia

We had a blast in Lafayette and New Iberia this weekend! The boys
competed in the World Gumbo Cookoff in New Iberia so the girls got
together with the kids in Lafayette before heading to New Iberia. We
ate at Chic-fil-a, which was a total madhouse! There were so many
people in the double drive through lines that the line extended down
the street. We ate inside so the kids could go play on the playground.
When it was time to leave, Jane wouldn't come down so I had to go up
into the "space ship" and get her out.
We had ice cream on the way to the pumpkin patch, which was very
impressive: face painting, jump castles, concessions, hay rides,
balloons, mazes, petting zoo and pumpkins galore! Jane spent most of
her time either at the petting zoo (she couldn't get enough of the
white goat) or the jump castle.

Some kids took naps on the 20 minute drive to New Iberia, but Jane and Elle had a great time in the back seat chatting. The boys had already sold out of all their "fried chicken cracklin" when we arrived. On Saturday you can sell whatever you want and the gumbo competition is on Sunday. The bell rings at 5:30 a.m. and the burners and generators start up. By 6:30 all generators have be off and gumbo must be turned in to judge at 11. They had to prepare 15 gallons of gumbo. They chose to make a duck, chicken and andouille sausage gumbo. It was delicious, but it did not make the cut this year. Granted, this was their first year to compete and there are over 80 teams! I guess we will be eating a lot of gumbo this year in preparation for next year!

Saturday at Home

It was so nice to not have weekend plans! We stayed in Natchez this weekend and really enjoyed a weekend "off". I taught yoga and Hyde went for a 3 hour bike ride on the Natchez Trace. Jane was able to play with Julia Claire Jex(before her first haircut), Liam Shea(while in town), Leah Tillman and Austin Jex. After Jane's nap, Maggie got a turn! We walked down the alley to the hill behind the school administration building and threw the dummy to her until she flopped on the ground with her tongue out. Jane got some good running in too! The weather was perfect and it made my day to have the whole family together enjoying time together!
